The NEF has held national and international workshops for NEF scholarship recipients since 2004 as support to younger generations of future conservationists. The aim of these workshops is to provide students with opportunities for expanding knowledge and practical skills in conservation and sharing cultures and experiences with other students in different cultures. These workshops are carried out with the supports of local communities, local NGOs, national parks, local researchers/experts, scholarship counterparts, and any other people who work for nature conservation. We sincerely appreciate their support and understanding for these workshops.
A workshop lasts for a few days to a week. During this period, the participants join a wide variety of programmes related to nature conservation. For example, they attend lectures, present their own research, visit research facilities, practice research skills in the field, and so on.
Workshops have been held in Indonesia and Vietnam, Malaysia, and Philippines to date.
The fourth workshop for Bangladeshi students was held on 18 May 2024 at Bangladesh Agricultural University. Under the theme of "Environmental Pollution: A Threat to Natural Resource Management" students representing each university (BSMRAU, BAU, DU, JU, SAU) gave oral and poster presentations.
We had workshops for Bangladeshi scholarship students to present what they have learned about their environment, natural resources, conservation, and sustainable development twice in 2017 and 2019.
This time, it was held at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University on February 11, 2023, with the participation of 120 scholarship students and 20 faculty members. Three representatives from NEF (Dr Hiroshi Kohno, President, Dr Makoto Komoda, Executive Director, and Ms Tomoko Oizumi) also joined the workshop online. Under the theme of “Nature Conservation in Context of Climate Change in the Perspective of Bangladesh,” representative students from each university gave oral and poster presentations and actively exchanged opinions. At the end of the workshop, the participants voted for the best presenters and praised each other's efforts. The award went to Monika Akhter (JU) and Mehedi Hasan (BAU) for the oral presentation and Imran Khan (DU) and Asraful Hoque (BAU) for the poster presentation.
This workshop was organized and possible by the NEF Bangladesh Committee, represented by the five universities eligible for scholarships (Bangladesh Agricultural University: BAU, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University: BSMRAU, Dhaka University: DU, Jahangirnagar University: JU, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University: SAU).
